Oscar, thank you for turning me on to Eric Gill. _www.ericgill.com_
(http://www.ericgill.com) Many of the images are white line engravings. He did
experimental blocks
Experimentation is a bona fide process and if it comes out successful call
it a happy accident.
Yes, experimental art is fun!

Hey Carol
Glad you like Eric Gill. He is a master engraver, for sure, and did a wonderful book, 25 nudes in white line engraving.

I am finishing up my exchange print and am doing letter carving in it (first time for me and I'm surprized how much I enjoy it. I'll definitely do more letters in the future!) Gill was a typographer as well and he designed some of the great English alphabets. My personal favourite is Perpetua. Being a writer, it is a novel and very interesting process for me to focus right down to the individual letters!! Each letter has its own individual story, if you will. When reading, each letter is so far in the background we don't even notice it :o)

>Experimentation is a bona fide process and if it comes out successful call it a happy accident.
The energy we put into the experimental work is a large part of a successful outcome, I think, more than just "accidental."
Some of your work is very experimental, Carol, and very good. I wouldn't call it accidental :o) !!
Gregory Bateson might refer to the experimental stance of the artist as "being open to receive random input."

Best to you and all inky friends here. Off to printing!

Oscar
