Hello Friends.

At the risk of annoying you further, I thought I'd say a bit more about
packing. Consider my attempts to be a gift. Take what you want and leave the
rest.... Value your efforts... preserve your art!

A GREAT way to send bare prints is to do the following:

Put a sheet of clean paper between each print or something similar. This
helps keep them from rubbing against each other, transferring ink between
themselves.

Place the prints in an envelope (or make a similar, flat container) so that
they just fit in, no larger. Tape shut.

Acquire a piece of cardboard close to the size of the box/large envelope that
will be used.

Tape "envelope" onto this cardboard. This prevents shifting inside the
container...

If using a box, put bubble wrap either taped around the cardboard or some
other noncrushable box filler.

If using an envelope, a second side of cardboard (sandwitch) can keep the
prints from being bent.

Most artists think of how art work can be damaged by the box being dropped or
smashed or punctured. Having a filled space between your framed print keeps
the work safe against that horror. Bubble wrap around the entire piece is good.
Avoid "peanuts" as they are difficult to manage on the other end. Plus they
often move, leaving the inner item against the box wall. Crushed newspaper just
crushes down further... and is not successful packing material when it's
important.

How the item inside can shift is often less planned for but of equal
importance. Properly rolled works (printed surface on outside, cover sheet around that
roll, tape on that outside sheet) can work well if in tubes. Flat is far
better as most forget that the roll has to be a unit, not allowed to unroll inside
the tube.

Ok, let's hope that this information serves you well in the future if you
didn't know it already. I used to take in shows' shipping for a nearly 400 member
printmaking group... and have seen it all. I gave out fun (anon.) awards for
the following proceedures:

Plastic bags were free at the grocery store Filler Award

Newspapers continue to be Crumpled During the Journey Award

Box soft as Velvet Award (recycle until it disintegrates)

Missing return shipping money/label Award (a lot won this one!)

Nobody in Particular sent this box Award (Package stores don't label who sent
the box)

Peanuts are Fun and Everywhere Award! (but the framed print still moved
inside to against the wall of the box)

and my favorite...

Perfectly packed for a Trip around the World Award (heavy wooden crate,
filled with custom cut foam, work seated inside, for a small print)

Bestus.

Your Fussy Friend.
