Hello, Baren Forum,
I've been lurking for a while and have learned many helpful things.
My Maru Bake is up and running quite nicely thanks to Bareners.

I took a Moku Hanga weekend class with April Volmer last summer and
have been entranced, enchanted and entangled ever since. You can see
some prints at my blog www.theqipapers.blogspot.com (beware it is
mostly about rabbits but just now has my Year of the Ox print blocks
featured) and at my Etsy shop www.qipapers.etsy.com

As to more formal background info I am currently a very under
employed acupuncturist/herbalist (the result of economic downturn and
a gross excess of acupuncturists in town) and a part-time teacher at
the Santa Cruz Waldorf High School where I teach painting, drawing,
and color theory. And will teach Moku Hanga to 9th graders the part
of spring trimester (I've already had them for B&W drawing and they
are fab, I think they can do it!!). Here's the school address http://
www.scwaldorf.org/frameit.cgi?/website/high_school/
hs_introduction.html Um, what else, oh yes, I have a BA in Fine Arts
form UC Santa Cruz with focus in drawing and printmaking and an MA in
Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches Institute.

Happy Solar New Year to Bareners One and All,
Diana Moll

Hi Linda

When scanning large artwork I've had good luck scanning in small
pieces and using photoshop (or a similar application) to patch the
pieces together. I create a blank canvas the same size or scale of the
large artwork and then drag the scanned sections onto the canvas on
seperate layers. Since darkening or lightening ("noise") at the edges
can be a problem I like to leave lots of overlapping at the seams. I
can adjust the levels and with a little feathered erasing and
rubberstamping the seams are very hard to detect.

If you're loading the image on to a sorefront and you don't want any
hint of a seam then having the art scanned elsewhere might be worth
the money. I don't know about copy shops but most press shops
(InstyPrints, AlphaGraphics, etc.) will have the capability to scan
large formats. This can get a bit pricey though. I suppose it just
depends on how you're planning on using the images.

Hope this helps!

Hi Diana,

Just a little heads up about a DVD I have that explains and

Subject: Briefcase full of Printing Ink
Posted by: Kathe Welch

I found my Briefcase full of Printing Ink. I moved over Thanksgiving break into my first home. Over the last six weeks I have been putting my house back together... I thought I would be done sooner, but it is surprising how long it takes to put a home back together. My apartment was just over 600 square feet with a one car garage that I used for my studio space. My house is nearly 1500 square feet plus a full basement which I will convert to a painting studio - see previous post - but that will take time...

Most of the rooms look like normal rooms and the house is fairly livable now...

The house was built in 1906 and has a formal living room and dining room. Since I don't need both, I am using the living room for my Printing and Drawing studio. The 'Formal Dining Room' is my living room - complete with giant couch, mid-size TV and well stocked Bar. The front room of the house is where I will likely spend most of my time. I have a drafting table set up in one corner and my proof press on the other side of the room. I have several prints that are in various stages and I am anxious to get back to printing.

I have been off work for two weeks, but tomorrow is my first day back. I miss my students . . .
