Hi All,

First, my sympathy to you, Larry, for the loss of your brother. Death is, I
think, beyond the capacity of our human brains and a never ending riddle.
Feeling it is easier.

Second, I want to thank Maria Pereira of Sao Paulo for the awesome print I
received from her yesterday. (I would have written directly to you, Maria,
but couldn't find an email address for you.) The print is exquisite with its
half-tones, delicate lines and composition. (My husband really loved the
flip-flops!) And, the whole presentation in itself is perfect with the neat
stamp and see-through envelope. I don't think I can break it open though I
want so much to feel the paper!

And now the ugly...
Our present discussion re art/Art/ART/politics/spam/art/spam, spam, spam and
art/spam, spam/art/spam and crafts and art(spam) is getting pretty boring. A
few astute comments have spiced up the dish, but is it really worth the
effort? I would much prefer if folks could talk about what they admire. I
have several pieces of art that rotate on my desktop. I like looking at
them, studying them, their intentions, their color and lines and
compositions, and letting them grow on me. I'll share one with you. Here's
where you can see it:

Maybe others can share a work of RT they find stimulating, relevant,
inspiring.

Peace,
Eileen

I agree with you, Eileen! Maria Pereira has simply outdone
herself with her "Bumba-Meu-Boi"! It is a 7.5" x 10" etching
with aquatint, with luxuriously black starry background! (I
can't imagine doing an edition of sixty etchings of that size!)
It's a wonderful print, and a terrific story! I usually keep
my "Year of.." prints together in a group, but this one is
aching for a frame!

Thank you, Maria, for sharing your talent, your printing
expertise, and your wonderful Brazilian story with us in this print!

Best wishes,
Sharen

Eileen,
Is this a sand painting? It is amazing
Here is one I like, the simplicity and balance are what draws me to this one

Colleen, I'm glad to hear you are well and are left relitivly whole from the quakes. Hopefully the worst of it is over for this century.

This event is very interesting to me and I think to others as well.

Perhaps you might tell us more and share some pics of the area and your art center and studio on/through the After Five Forum, if not here.

To keep this woodcut related, I'd like to ask those printmaker/artists that make or modify tools for printmaking to share info on those tools, including links to pics, with the rest of us. These could include Daubs, Knives, Rollers and Brayers.

I have begun to make small knives from tool steels, including small blades from reciprocal-saw, jig-saw, heavy band-saw and circular saw-blades. I have not yet used any of these for woodcuts but several years back I made some small jig-saw blades for carving plaster printing blocks; these preformed quite well.

Here is a quick primer on blade making.

http://www.primitiveways.com/pt-knives-1.html

It does not cover all the ways small blades can be made out of recycled material but it could help some here take the first steps toward making their own carving knives.

I am also wanting to make some small brayers from an old Spiratone paper processer and I would really like to hear from anyone whom has done the same.

Cheers

Hello.

While we do run amok now and then, irritating a few, this new topic,
"interesting/inspiring art" is far afield from the topic of printmaking. Reading
how the subject developed, who was likely to say what and the concept of how
printmaking has broadened over time was to my taste.

I kinda like the new topic but might it be a little far afield? Are we
talking about what art has influenced our printmaking or something? I'm
confused.

I've finally resolved several printing problems on my coming just barely
under the wire printing. Will have to Fed Ex but, dear Coordinator, have
faith. It will be there.

I second that! I received the most awesome Ox print from Maria all the way
from Brazil in exquisite condition. What a wonderful package and
presentation. The stamp and cancel-mark are very interesting to this
amateur philatelist, also. Thank you, Maria!
As to the other stuff (spam) - I think its one of the reasons I really enjoy
this group - its very lively, everyone has an opinion and usually someone
comes up with some very good 'words of wisdom' to sum it up!
Thank you Group!
