This is an outside-of-Baren workshop

Le Green is offering her home to anyone coming in from out of town, including rides to and from the workshop,

Waterless Lithography Workshop at StoneMetal Press Printmaking Center, San Antonio, Texas June 13-14

Lenard Brown, Professor of Art at Texas Southern University,
will conduct a waterless lithography workshop at StoneMetal Press on
June 13 and 14, 2009. Brown has an MFA in Printmaking from The Ohio
State University and has taught Printmaking, Drawing and Painting for
over 13 years.

This workshop introduces students to the art of waterless lithography.

Waterless lithography allows an artist the ability to print
lithographic images without the use of sponging and wiping the image
tokeep it damp with water for printing. Instead, silicone is used to
resist the ink in the non-printing areas.. Cost $110, all materials except paper. 2 day June 13-14 10 am to 3pm. Email info@stonemetalpress.com or call 227-0312 to register.

Subject: An American Serpent
Posted by: Annie B

JoinOrDie

Serpent

For my American Garden of Eden and apple tree, I chose a uniquely American serpent, a famous political cartoon created and published by Benjamin Franklin in 1754. Join, or Die is a woodcut showing a snake severed into eighths, with each segment labeled with the initial of a British American colony or region. During Franklin's time, there was a superstition that a snake which had been cut into pieces would come back to life if the pieces were put together before sunset, so the cartoon helped make his point about the importance of colonial unity. The pieces were labeled with the names of the colonies, although New England was represented as one colony, rather than the four colonies it was at that time. I kept the New England label on my serpent, since this series explores the early settling of New England.
