Hi Steve, welcome to the Baren discussion group.......

The one place I believe still doing printmaking demonstrations is the
Adachi Institute in Tokyo. You can check this link below for more
information including a detailed map of how to get there. David Bull may
have other info on where to see live printmaking.

http://www.adachi-hanga.com/en_ukiyo-e/aboutus.htm

The folks at Woodlike Matsumura (the main supplier for the Barenmall) may
also have info on where to catch some live printmaking. Here is a link
with a map.

Hope that helps......have a great trip and when you get back let us know
how you make out.....

Subject: Tsukasa Yoshida Year of the Ox print
Posted by: Julio

Anyone familiar with the Yoshida family of printmakers knows of founder Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) and son's Toshi (1911-1995) and Hodaka (1926-1995). Besides the men, the women artists in the family also have carried on the family legacy.

The Yoshida family studio and enterprises is currently run by Toshi's son Tsukada Yoshida (b. 1949) a well known printmaker on his own right. I was looking over Matsumura-san collection of Year of the Ox prints when I came across this wonderful image by Tsukasa. For more info on the Yoshida family visit this link at Artelino.com

*Warning - this post features an extraordinary number of printing presses*

Now this looks an interesting place to start a day:

Paul Aken's wonderful Platen Press Museum in Zion, IL.

Walking into the first room, we were met by a group of iron handpresses, including this handsome Hopkinson & Cope Albion Press:

The unmistakeable Columbian press. We were given the opportunity to print on this during our visit:

A large Washington Press:

A sweet Hopkinson & Cope table top Albion. There were many of us who would have liked to adopt this and take it home:

Finally, a wonderful Reliance:

In another room, Earl had found a Columbian No. 2 Platen press, similar to his own.

Everywhere, there seemed to be a handpress.

Carl and Rachel were among those who pulled proofs from the Columbian.

Below are photos taken by Rachel Stonecipher of Carol Wagner, my mentor and fellow barenforum.org member. The photos were taken about a month before Carol passed away.

In the above photo Carol is binding one of an edition of books we collaborated on. You can see the pages I created for the book in the following blogs:
