Baren members, please have a look at this work:
http://clivechristy.blogspot.com/2008/12/oscar-droege-1898-19823.html

How on earth could it be that I have never heard of him??!! Is he
familiar to anyone here?

I was hunting for a bit more information on Droege ...

Many more here:
http://www.museen-sh.de/ml/digicult.php?digiID=200.6885283&s=2&&r=1
(First page of 7 has mainly drawings, etc., later pages have lots more
prints ...)

... but while I was doing that, I came across a couple of other sites
jammed full of information on more early 20th century printmakers - a
number of whom I have never heard of before.

This dealer has plenty:
http://www.williampcarlfineprints.com/woodcuts.php
(That one is three pages ...)

And this antique dealer (?) in Britain has a bunch of them:
http://www.heatons-of-tisbury.co.uk/colwoodcuts.htm

This whole subject is just _waiting_ for somebody to come along and
research it, and then produce a nice fat book on the topic for us to
buy! I read recently that it was a big problem recently for college
students who were seeking research topics (with depth) for their
Master's - that 'everything' had been done, and there were few areas
left to study. Ain't so!

What amazing work. I too find it surprising we have not heard of him.
It is pretty inspiring to see this. A favorite of mine is Francis Gearhart, http://www.francesgearhart.com/, but these works of Droege are stunning
my best to all
