To Jean Womack:

Relief printing with Sculpey plates is from a printmaking class I
attended many years ago. Wish I could remember the name of the
instructor. I will e-mail you a copy of one of my prints that date
back to when I owned an etching press.

The Sculpey is rolled out like pie dough to about 1/4 inch
thick.......from the large slab, one cuts out a piece required for
the illustration intended.(4x4, etc.) Because of the softness of the
material, it can be easily etched into - or added to for relief
areas. The plate is then baked in an oven.......briefly like 8
minutes. It must be left - not too hard - because it will need a
bit of resilience to go thru the etching press.
Ink is applied to the plate and wiped as any other etching work.
The resulting print has a distinctive charm, an almost three
dimensional look.
I call it relief-etching. Don't remember what our instructor called -
or if she invented the process.

Hoping for clarity.........ElizA

Deliberately print off registration red and green and give your audience/
viewers 3D glasses!

All the best for sorting the problem and the exhibition, Barbara.

I was thinking of this print which I printed again yesterday, see post below for the basic imaga, which has led me to plan another sewn print utilising other prints (death of the angel of mercy and storm at sea) whch I also printed yesterday....shall post a final image in a few days...maybe

Subject: More printing pleasure!
Posted by: Georgina

I was astonished today to have more printing success with Scott Trevelyan's press at his very pleasant studio. I love his artequip press and am very grateful to have found a press that seems to like me. I set it and printed, very few booboos and these mainly related to spots in the ink (so annoying when you have to clean up just to get rid of them) and other acts of general carelessness unrelated to the press!

This print is called Secret Cull, when I first cut it I printed it on delicate paper in black, then 'ghost' prints and sewed it together with cotton thread. I never editioned it. I have a photo of the big print but it is very hard to photograph.

Shall try to post it next...

Scott's studio is for hire and I will post some photos of it after next printing session.
