I know that I am at the computer less,
poking around the internet less,
due to longer daylight hours...
longer days allows for more arting,
more outside activity...
I think everyone is around and about, just busy.

I'm here, working on my map. This is an amazing project for me and
one of the most difficult I have tackled. Much time and patience as
well as a few tears and it is coming. After spending several weeks
driving up the Baja and than to Washington state, unpacking many boxes
to get my kitchen into some sort of useable space, there just is no
time left. I will post about this print when I am finished.

Linda what an amazing print. You are really doing something special
with the white line.

Happy printing everyone.

Linda is an expert white line woodblock printer!
And sardine can carver! We love sardines!
I don't know how I will take to white line. . The last time I didn't
know how I would take to a new skill I took a course with April, more than 10
years ago,Center for Contemporary Printing in Conn.
It took!

Linda,

I am so in awe of your work! I have so much to learn and you inspire me to
push myself to grow as a printmaker. It is clear to me that I have really
only scratched the surface of this fascinating process and art form. As a
beginner working mostly with simple woodcuts and single oil-based ink
prints, could you give me some pointers on how to start learning to work
towards the direction you are working in? My art classes at the local
community college will never get me to your level (heck, I'm not sure if 20
years of printmaking down the line will get me to your level), but I'd like
to start the journey.

Do you have any recommendations of books I could read, workshops I could
attend, or specific methods to study up on?

Thanks again for sharing your work with us.

You guys are so nice...thank-you for the thumbs-up votes..
but, I'm still figuring this out..
I know absolutely what I should not do.
I'm willing to bet I'm not done learning more of what I should not do,
don't think that part's over yet.
I do feel that my brain was released once I unhooked the paper from the board.
Now I'm back to the cutting on the last block of a series which is about 13 so far...
Barbara, remember the rubbings? This is the last of the major pictures I'm starting.
I'm working on one other one on really, really hard cherry...
it's made up of curly, wavy grain...really hard, almost to the point of engraving....
really fun.
Thanks so much again for feedback...other eyeballs are good.

Lee, I hope everything went well with your press.

Andy your print is awesome, congratullations on the exhibit.

We had the openning of the Third Prints for Peace in Monterrey the 16 of June ; you can see photos of the invitation with 219 printmakers participating from 41 countries.

Some artists belong to Baren Forum thank you all for your participation. I will include more photos this month of the gallery so everybody can see their print hanging in Monterrey, Mexico.

Have a great summer or winter, Saludos, Guadalupe

Clive may be laxing in his hammock, but I have been beating my brains
out getting the "Vancouver's Printmakers: Pressing the Boundaries"
show hung. (I'm envious, can you tell?) We had the opening Friday
night and it was very well attended despite iffy weather and the fact
that it is a long holiday weekend. The show looks great and there are
people working in both intaglio and relief, although I think all of
the relief, or most of it, is linoleum. The work is all strong and it
was worth the two years that went into organizing and pulling this
thing off. I wish I had pictures to post, but alas, I forgot the
camera, called hubby to bring it, he did, battery was dead, he left
the spare battery on the kitchen counter. sigh. Barbara did a
wonderful demo of Solarplate intaglio and relief, of which everyone
seemed in complete awe. And, we had a group of very happy fish
printers outside in front of the gallery, no doubt drawing a crowd!
I'll see if I can get some photos of the exhibition next week...

Now that that is over maybe I can get back to printing again. I'll be
posting some more Solarplate intaglio I did for this show - then back
to woodblock.

Cheers to you happy relaxers in your hammocks with a long cool drink!

I can also report that the exhibit was very good. Sharri had about 10 pieces on the wall behind where I was doing the demo and people kept asking if they were mine... finally I just said yes. (End of conversation.) Just kidding. There was a lot of interest in solarplate but I thoroughly enjoyed the relief work that was on the walls, block prints as well as monotypes. All in all a great showing.

I visited with Alfred Maurice, a longtime member or Print Arts Northwest and former teacher at the Art Institute of Chicago and found he is going to start a new program at Western Oregon University south of Portland about 60 miles.... He is 89 so a third or fourth career for him. What a great thing it is to be an artist!!! You never get too old to make work and contribute! He was so excited he just sparkled so it was great fun to see this happening for him.

So, cut and print and be glad you can. Artists just keep making work.. no matter what happens with the crazy world.
My best to all
Barbara
