Yikes! I see that McClains is out of Shina Plywood until the end of April and
I'm participating in "Inspired by Japan". I'm sure there are other sources but I
just don't know where to get some. Suggestions?

Basswood isn't too expensive -- it's almost the same wood, but solid rather
than plywood?

I am trying to print some blocks and plates on a Conrad etching press. But I
am having a problem with the paper sliding as I run it through the press. I
have tried damp and dry paper. I have been using Caligo Relief Ink. The
plate is adhered to the bed so I know it is not moving. Any suggestions?

Are you using blankets...if so try using a piece of matboard instead on top of
the paper when you print
Do you have a chase for the roller to sit on, that is a frame around the edge of
the bed that is slightly higher than the block? If not build one and your
problems will probably be solved. I use a simple frame made with 1x2 wood that I
cobbled together....it looks awful but works. Eventually I had to replace it as
the wood compressed.
When the roller of an etching press hits the block it wants to bounce or
sometimes slide things around
My best

Starting to carve.  It's those first marks that get the juices flowing.

More carving.  ;-]
