I too am sorry it's cancelled even tho I wasn't going to be able to go either, with a prior commitment, but I was a teeny bit jealous of everyone else going and the wonderful location. Perhaps when the economy and circumstances improve we can all try again. You did such a wonderful job organizing it all, Le. You had such great plans.

Hannah,
That is amazing. I don't think it will work on my particular print,
but I wish I had thought of it for another one I did several years ago
where I used gold leaf on the background (trying to give it that "icon
look". Who knows, I may end up trying it when I find out that the
gold powder learning curve is too steep.

Le - I, too, am so sorry the Summit didn't happen. I know how much
work goes into something like this and then to not have it happen. I
really wanted to come this year, but at some point when I was not
thinking clearly (hmmm, that could have been at any time, actually) I
agreed to put my garden on the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon's study
tour. Do you have any idea how many weeds can grow in a wet spring?
Anyway, the dates conflicted and that is my sorry tale of not being a
summit attendee. I really wanted to see everyone again and to meet
our new folks. I do hope there will be another one - someday, and
thank you for all the work you put into this one. We all owe you a
great debt of gratitude, or at least a print. ;-)

Happy Printing,
Sharri

Subject: Japan Relief print
Posted by: Sharri

I'm ready to start the Japan Relief print - I think.  Hopefully, all the layers have been thought out and will come together as the brain pictures them.  This is the drawing, which is loosely based on a greeting card image by a Yoshi Watanabe who is/was chief of business administration in the econ department at Japan's Josai University and who gave permission for his image to be used by UC Riverside.  I've tried to find a way to reach this gentlemen & asked his permission to take off from his work, but to no avail.  Well, we'll see - maybe he will materialize and I can ask and, I hope, he will say yes....  If anyone knows how to reach him, would you let me know?
Mr. Watanabe's work had cranes, where I have swans, placed a little differently, too.  One of my swans will be black, and all of Mr. W's cranes are gold.  Mr. W. had all the same flowers, where some of mine have taken on the shape of the "radioactive" icon.    Mr. W's swans and leaves are metallic gold and I hope I can do the same with mine, except for the black one, but we'll see.  They may take on a different color depending upon the luck I have with the gold powder...
