The Chinese New Year's Exchange will continue!

Next year is the Year of the Snake and the sign up page will be up
soon. Julio Rodriguez has sponsored this exchange for twelve years
and deserves a big thanks for his work. I have been working with
him uploading and adding to the galleries, http://barenforum.org/
new_year/index.html , and will continue to take over more of the tasks.

The galleries are up to date, I'm pretty sure, at least of the ones I
have received, beginning with the horse in 2002. If yours is missing
let me know.

Thanks,

Carole Baker

Carole
I believe 2012 is the Chinese New Year of the Dragon.

Is this not correct?

Hi Carol, Thanks for your work on the New Years cards. and of course thank
you Julio.
We do need to do a Dragon year before we do a snake year so I'm not sure
what you meant by
"Next year is the Year of the Snake and the sign up page will be up
soon. " Have a great Thanksgiving. Bea Gold

Sharen Linder alerted me that her tiger wasn't in the gallery, and I
realized there were some others, so don't want you to be alarmed. I
have tigers from Linder, Cutter, Corrodi, Cass, Starum and Welch and
will get them in the gallery soon.

Let me know of any other absent one. You can send a scan if I don't
have yours; I don't any snakes and dragons.

Yet another three impressions today - managing to keep this thing on schedule so far ...

Yesterday saw the vermillion base tone for the bird, and today sees the base for the tail areas - three patches which will receive four overprintings later:

(A little highlight for each of the acorns also came along for the ride on that block ...)

Subject: Art Gallery Bio

This is my bio sheet for the Santa Clarita Artists Association Gallery, opening this Black Friday at the Westfield Valencia Town Center.  8-]  It's a store front that's been empty for some while and the town has decided to let the SCAA use it for a gallery until a paying customer comes along.  Now that's a deal!

I've got 3 pieces in the opening show:

Subject: NibbleFest Art Contest
Posted by: Phare-Camp

Today I listed the following artworks on ebay for a monthly art themed exhibit/contest titled "NibbleFest Art Contest."  (NFAC)

Many artist participate in this online exhibit/auction by listing artworks based on a new theme each month.  All of the works have to be listed using the auction style with an opening bid of 99 cents.  There are no reserve prices or additional fees other than shipping.  I've yet to see any of the participating artists try to make money by padding the shipping.  I've only seen shipping fees that are reasonable for careful packaging and postal costs.

I find these kinds of art challenges a fun way to step outside of my usual and experiment with materials and subject matter.  The theme for November 2011 is Penguins.  Click the following link to see an EBay search for this month's "NFAC" challenge:  http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=NFAC+Art+&_trksid=p5197.c0.m627

This artwork is a 2.5" x 2.3" mixed media collage ACEO (Artist's Card Edition or Original).  You can learn more about ACEOs at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards
I got the idea for this image by googling "penguin" images.  I saw this pic of two penguins and thought they look like they're snowboarding.  So I created a digital collage on my laptop using that image.  Then I made this miniature paper collage based on the digital collage.  I used fun decorative papers pasted to a scrap of Stonehenge printmaking paper.

This one is an original 9" x 12" charcoal sketch on Canson drawing paper.  I saw this cute screen saver of a photoshopped photo on the computer in the Sierra College classroom where I'm a teaching assistant.  I mentally cropped it then sketched my idea and yesterday I created an open edition woodcut print from my sketch.

Subject: Autumn leaves... outside the box
Posted by: Sherrie Y

Well, the waiting is finally over. Sort of. The wait now is for this piece to dry enough to frame, hopefully by the end of this week. There are holiday shows to hang, and SOON, afterall.

Here's how the end game played out:

After the blue, a gray. This was one of those nervous moments when I wondered if I had made the right color choice.

But the final dark made it all happy again... whew!

I definitely like this boundary-breaking approach... I'll have to keep my eyes open for other images that would work well.
