good morning BARENERS
concerning BAREN exchanges-i usually try to do every OTHER one
that way i don't get burned out but keep motivated
spring and summer bring up many more LOCAL shows to enter here in my
neck of the woods
so i'll wait for fall exchange to sign on again

i have found the exchange experience to be very complimentary to my
own work
in that i can always use my prints for sale in my local gallery
and it is a wonderful way to have one's work travel all over the world
with minimal effort
it also is a way to amass a huge collection of prints with minimal
expense
the education in printmaking, inks ,papers and techniques each set
contains is a true gift

i thank all coordinators and participants for the many years of fun
and work they have provided

really looking forward to seeing the CITY OF THE WORLD in person
and sharing it with the printmaking and book arts classes at Univ of
Maine Machias
thanks Maria and all participants

I have them lined up on the floor, flattened at the very edges with books, and with key in hand Jim and I have been having the time of our lives admiring everyone's work within The City of the World. What a bunch of talented carvers and printmakers we have on Baren! Maria, team-Maria, Bareners, non-Bareners who sent in carved blocks, my respect goes out to all. How does one express the welling up of emotion. It makes me happy to be human and an artist, able to sing with other artists under the direction of one heck of a maestro.

Mine came too! They're soooo gorgeous! Now how to display them....

I could use 5 separate frames, but I'd like them closer together than that.
One gimungus plexi-frame screwed to the wall? ;- p

Any suggestions?

They are all so dynamic. The best puzzle project yet! 8-]

Thanx for the opportunity to participate, Maria.

I just received my five panels of beautiful images from our project - City of The World and WOW!!! Each panel glows with light and that's hard to do with black ink. I want to thank everyone in the prodcution of creating such a fun whimsical project that created a lot of joy for every participant involved. I know the back breaking work of inking and pulling those prints and the phsical demands that were created for everyone involved, was done with such care and love. A special hug goes out to you, Maria. Without your strength and ingenuity this project could not have come to fruition for the good people of the world. Warm and Caring Thoughts for all involved.Jerelee (Washington, DC)

The City of the World web pages have been updated.

Here it is for those of you who are wondering what this "city" hoopla is all
about.

Final Image is up as well, direct link:

And we were very close this time on financials! Very impressive.

Contributing factors to the savings were:

-a lazy Postal employee who charged me Canada rates for a bunch of
Australian, UK, packages and just said, oh well.

-a generous discount from Daniel Smith Materials (www.danielsmith.com ) for
the paper, delivered free to my door

-very generous contributions from many of you who helped support everyone
else

-free labor from the Mayor and the Printing Team Extraordinaire!

The Great City Colophon Book is getting printed, soon to be available.

Meanwhile, you can actually download a 9 MB Key (participants received with
their prints) and enjoy with the rest of us.

Thank you for all your wonderful emails, some of you made me cry.

Keep them coming, I like happy-crying.

Maria

I've joined in on 2 recent swaps here and they have been fabulous! They did, indeed, challenge me and I learned a lot from taking it on. The reward of getting prints from so many talented folks is awesome! I understand that Baren is about woodblock printing, but the only exchanges I can join are those that allow soft block prints, so my participation is limited to that. Not complaining - just explaining. I treasure the exchanges I'm able to join! Janis On 04/28/12, Marilynn Smith<marilynn.smith731@gmail.com> wrote: Great to see the interest. Baren is about a lot of things and the exchanges are one of them. Newbies, have no fear, we love getting beginners and advanced printmakers work. I know how overwhelming these serious and talented artists can feel, but they are some of the best people around. You have made a good choice joining Baren and will make an even better choice doing an exchange. When you get your portfolio of prints you will sit in awe and marvel at how different each one is and how special they are. There are things you will learn from just looking. And, you will have some very special prints. Some of our older members seem not to have time for exchanges any more. They have done so well with their art that they are simply too busy. Just think for a minute on that one and realize you might in the years to come possess work from some very talented, successful and well known artists. Not that I think one should do exchanges just to own others work. For me, exchanges are an inspiration keeping me carving and pushing me to try new things. I always learn new things, every time I do one. Growth is important. My block for this exchange is almost carved, if I like it!Bye for now,Marilynn
