Artist's comments ...

I have a great admiration for William Blake (1757 - 1827), especially for his work as a printmaker. Just once, in 1820, he made an exquisite set of wood engravings to illustrate Virgil.
The image is based on a drawing by John linnell from the Fitzwilliwm museum, Cambridge. It is engraved on Resingrave and printed onto Zerkall mould made paper with Lawrence's carbon black letterpress ink, using an 1865 Albion handpress. This image represents state IV of the engraving.
