This funny (unusual, humorous, mystifying; you take your pick) print was inspired by a short film I saw and loved, The Raftman's Razor. I won't tell you about the film because I hope you will see it at a film festival near you. But I will make one comment... Who is doing the thinking here.

Man's ability to inflict horrors on others in the name of some ideology has always fascinated me. My questions are myriad.
What kind of species are we that we can commit genocide? What kind of mind thinks up the atrocities? What kind of people go along with or ignore the death and destruction? Who are the survivors .... aside from dumb luck... what set them apart from the other victims? And the biggest question of them all ..... how come we never learn?
Maui Full Moon Journeycarved luan, on Japanese papers, with oil based ink
when going up a mountian I'm intregued with: it doesn't look like a mountain when nearing the top amd the light cast by a full moon
Guelph ON Canada On Georgian Bay3 lino blocks, 4 colors printed on Kizuki Kozo on a Vandercook proofing press. The view is looking west from the outer edge of the archipelago that runs up the eastern side of Georgian Bay. Great canoe country.
Ceiba PR HeartlandLinocut (edition 40) pulled with a press (Fabriano Uno rough watercolor paper, Artool sepia oil-based ink).
I was influenced by the wonderful creativity of Baren members in the last exchange honoring printmakers. For me Herschel Logan, an early 20th century American printmaker, has a wonderful way of depicting the Midwestern rural life and I decided, with this horizontal format, to try thinking like him in attacking an image. I humbly admit, while fun, was definitely a challenge.

This print was inspired by a visit to Pompeii, Italy. Many of the vestibles of the houses have mosaic dogs on their floors, almost as a welcome mat (two of them are depicited in my print). One of the more famous mosaics is the one in the House of the Tragic Poet which included the wording: CAVE CANEM, which is Latin for Beware of Dog.
