Artist's comments ...

    "Kaminari-san", more formally known as Raijin or Raiden, is the Japanese god of thunder and lightning. He is usually depicted as a muscular monster surrounded by a ring of drums used to produce the sound of thunder. Like many Japanese children, my husband grew up believing that this scary guy comes down from the clouds to steal belly buttons during thunderstorms.

    Wood: Five blocks of All-Shina Plywood (Reduction on two blocks several times each)
    Impressions: Eleven impressions with color gradation on four layers.
    Paper: Yamaguchi Hosho
    Pigment: Powdered pigment with Nori paste
