Ordinarily, where we live, we see no planes in the sky except for a silver thread catching the sunlight so high there is no sound. However, a military training base 50 miles from here often sends out two C-130's which travel low in the sky. We never hear them until they are nearly over us, and we look up from our yardwork (or snow shoveling) in time to see them go over. There is something dark and mysterious about them. The crows don't seem to notice. For me this image is more than it's content -- it's a metaphor. But then, I'm a poem writer, and in the right mood, everything's a metaphor.
