Coconut Palms are a staple of island life throughout the Pacific. The Hawaiians of old times used to plant a coconut when a baby was born, knowing that one tree would help provide for a individual with food (the meat and the water), oil (from the meat), fronds (for baskets and thatch) and bark (for straining) and probably the wood. We watch the movement of the fronds to see wind speed.
