By the Light of the Silvery Moon
The fearsome jackalope is rarely seen in the American Southwest.
The meat is said to be exceptional eating and the milk is used by the locals for many medicinal purposes. It is well known they mate during thunderstorms, mimic the voices of humans and sounds of machinery, and are driven loco by a full moon, confusing it with sunlight.Hunting season is restricted to the three days prior to a full moon, June 1 to October 31. Hunters may only use tranquilizer pellets or slingshots. Last year, on the very last day of hunting season, I was most fortunate to photograph this elusive critter as it basked in the moonlight.
