Image Dimension: 5.5\" by 7.25\"
Block: Baltic Birch Ply and Solid Pine
Pigment or Ink: Transparent Watercolors
Paper: Iyo Glazed (ph neutral sulphite bases)
Edition: 32Comments: This is my first attempt at multicolor Japanese-style
printing. I'm from a litho background so I find the process
very similar
yet very different. I've printed woodblock western style for
awhile and
just felt it was time to try something different. I genuinely
feel that this
process has somehow called to me. And look forward to many more
experiments with Japanese- style printmaking.Process: I used a piece of Baltic Birch for the keyblock and seven
pine blocks made from solid pine scraps from my woodshop.
Content: I tried to develop an image that would challenge me to
try a
few different techniques within the same print. For the floor I
tried
mokume-zure or wood grain printing, and under the arch I tried a
two layered fuki-bokashi or color gradation. The striped
background was at first meant to be a solid color but i soon
realized that would never happen with the substandard brushes I
was using so it ended up being an intentional accident.
