- Last day to sign up: April 21, 2011.
- Last day to pay: April 23, 2011.
- Last day to cancel and receive a full refund: April 30, 2011.
On the [Baren] web site, the following paragraph
appears in the general introduction section:
Think of [Baren]
as being a 'convention of woodblock printmakers' - but a convention
with a difference: held in 'cyberspace' and thus easily accessible
to all, and with never a 'closing speech' to signify that
it is time for all the participants to end the discussions
and go home.
The first Baren posting went out to the initial group of six members on November 27, 1997. The first successful meet up event was in Kansas City in 2003 hosted by Mike Lyon, the second Baren Summit was held at the home of member Sharri LaPierre in Vancouver, Washington in 2006.
The Third Baren Summit will be held at the Centro Cultural Aztlan in San Antonio, Texas, from Tuesday, June 14 through Saturday, June 18, 2011.
Many Activities are planned: A Pre-Party reception will be held Monday evening for early arrivals. Visits to the San Antonio Museum of Art and the McNay will include time at the print rooms to view some of their extensive collection. A Local collector has also offered to open his private collection of Japanese prints to our group. We will end with a Texas style Bar-b-que.
Special exhibition at the Centro Cultural Aztlan of relief prints June 9 - 30 include:
- An exhibition open only to Baren Summit Participants in San Antonio, Peaks and Valleys: Summit Relief Print Exhibition, $10 hanging fee for 1-2 prints
- A juried exhibition competition open to all printmakers: Reliefs for Relief, benefitting Japan. (email Reliefs4Relief@live.com for juried call for entry)
Because registration must be limited, it would be unfair to allow frivolous registration. So we require you to make a "good faith damage and food deposit" of $80. Your $80 fee includes the cost of the facilities fees as well as quite a few meals and snacks. If any money remains at the end of the summit it will be equally divided and refunded to attendees. (Anyone having a problem paying the $80 fee should contact Le and we will work this out on an individual basis.)
ACCOMMODATIONS: The studio locations are close to downtown and on the bus lines, so staying at the scenic El Tropicano Riverwalk is a wonderful option …$92 a night per room with up to 4 occupants. They are offering us a group rate. Le Green Schubert and other local art friends are also offering free space in their homes. Information on other hotels, motels, B&B’s and restaurants will be provided upon request.
